-A Joyful Surprise -

“A Truly Captivating Piece of literature”

Part 1 of this series spans multiple generations of heartwarming characters—kith and kin. Clara and Phillip’s starry night big dipper love pact will bond them forever. Whispers and a mysterious cavalry tunic button are hints from a bygone era, and a tale of twin brothers ensues, one of which suddenly vanishes. All of these events lead up to a tearful, chaotic struggle for control of a burgeoning nation.

I have for you today an excerpt from Whispers from Kith and Kin- Gettysburg Part One, page 37. Our story is available at: Whispers from Kith and Kin : Hill, Gerald Lorne, Hill, Shannon Jane: Amazon.ca: Books

One evening as they were relaxing after supper and George had completed a hard day’s work, Collett had finished washing the dishes and the house was in order.

“George, come over here and sit beside me, I have something to tell you.”

He suspiciously took a seat beside her.

She revealed, with her predictable impish behaviour, “We’re going to have a baby.”

“What?" Cried George.

“We're going to have a baby!”

As if questioning the pregnancy itself, he hesitates and queried again, “You’re pregnant?”

“Yes, yes!” Tears swelled up beyond her control.

“When, when?” probed George.

“In January but…, but…,”

She intently searched his eyes for his approval, for she had one more pronouncement in which she had vacillated. “We will have to put off our plans to move further west.”

George, without any hesitation, quickly approved. “Oh, that’s alright." He quickly added, “If you’re not upset?”

He drew her close. With uncontrollable tears of joy, they suddenly broke into joy with colossal laughter. They swirled arm in arm, around the tiny room. They fell to the bed and George kissed her repeatedly.
